Welcome 'wavers!

The London Lightwave User Group is an informal band of graphics types whose main tool is Lightwave 3D (and related apps - Modo, Zbrush, Maxwell etc). We talk about anything that takes our fancy, and it's mostly 3D graphics, though not restricted to graphics alone.

Generally we don't tend to have anything formal arranged in terms of what happens, though people often bring along laptops or files to show what they've working on. We did have a very impressive demo from Ben Haines of Preset Central one time though, Whatever you like! All levels of ability are welcome, from "ooh that’s a nice picture" to discussing the mathematics of subsurface scattering algorithms, We are a very constructive bunch!

We normally meet up every couple of months and try to have a mix of tech demos and general socialising. And beer!

May 2012 Event - The LLWUG returns!

It's been ages since the last one, so let's try and gather this Friday. Beer, pringles and LW11-related goodness will be on offer! I've recently finished a short film - Liminal States - which made heavy use of the new instancer in LW11, and I'd be happy to talk about how I put it together.

UPDATE (29/11/11): Venue change

Ho-ho-ho! Holidays are coming and NewTek has given us a bit of seasonal cheer by springing a surprising substantial Lightwave update on us. Lightwave 11 is really quite decent and we have the pre-release version to play with.

Small change of plans people. I'm afraid my office isn't going to be available for Wednesday's event (people I share it with have a deadline and need to work late), so instead I've hired the upstairs room at The Blue Posts on Berwick Street.

I'll bring my 27" iMac down there with LW11 set up, so we should still be able to demo plenty of cool stuff! So - please head straight to The Blue Posts and go upstairs (the door will be marked "private") to the first floor.

Hopefully this could even be better than doing it at my office. If it does work out, this could be a regular venue for future events!

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow, so long at the Strike doesn't cripple all transport (fingers crossed it doesn't!)

October 2011 Event - with Special Guest

Richard Mans, the New Zealand director of the acclaimed CG short "Abiogenesis" will be joining us on Wednesday to talk about the film and do a private screening. Abiogenesis was created almost entirely using Lightwave and is a stunning piece of cinema which premiered at Raindance last week.

May 2011 Event

Lightwave 10.1 is out in the wild (well, in the HC community anyway), it's a great update and so that seems as good a reason as any to have a (long overdue) London Lightwave Meetup. So, Friday the 13th of May it is. Be there and be square with us! :)
